We have a new "paper" in Albany, a daily online newspaper, Albany Patch. The Poetry Garage was featured in Patch Saturday :http://albany.patch.com/articles/magnetic-garage-door-makes-poets-of-us-all#photo-1261547
I love how Patch reminds me of the small town newspaper from my home town and it's great to see what people are doing around town to build community.

It's sad to be too busy for poetry...
But I'm finally uploading some pictures of the garage from a few weeks back. It is ever changing now!
And neighbors are donating all kinds of fun additions: magnetic animals, individual letters, and the small size magnetic poetry.

This is still making me happy
After the first flurry of street poetry on the garage, words stayed where they were for a few days. I think people were afraid to "mess it up." But new works are appearing now. Some look like fragments. Those are fun for inspiration. I enjoy adding to what someone else has left. I also enjoy leaving fragments for other people to finish.
I can tell there are words we need that aren't on the wall. I'm going to put up a word request list and make words we need, like"much" in this one:

Magnets stick to it!
Our city frowns upon them, roll-up metal garage doors. They want us to put in much more expensive "carriage doors." I was feeling a little guilty for not beautifying our city when we got a new garage door, especially since the garage is this big glaring white thing right on the sidewalk. But inspiration struck. So late Saturday night, Nicky and I took a test word down to see if it stuck. It did and the Magnetic Poetry moved outside to form the Ordway Street Poetry Garage. By 9 am Sunday, there were five poems. (I wish I'd thought to take pictures then, but I didn't think of that until Bob Theis gave me the idea. These are Tuesday morning's poems.)
